A Pair of Detentions in the Aftermath of Heathrow Irritant Spray Attack
Two more people are now in custody related to a theft at Heathrow Airport where over twenty individuals sustained injuries by a substance believed to be an irritant spray, as stated by law enforcement.
A man, 24, was taken into custody in the Lambeth area on suspicion of robbery and assault and a woman, 23 was detained for suspected conspiring to commit a robbery. Both individuals remain in custody, the force said.
These detentions come after a probe into an attack at the multi-storey car park at Heathrow's Terminal 3 this past Sunday. Before the incident, a pair of female travelers were robbed of their luggage upon exiting a car park lift.
A toddler aged three was among the injured during the incident. A total of five individuals went to hospital for medical care and have since been discharged.
Officers arrested a man in his thirties on suspicion of theft and assault near the scene. He was subsequently released under investigation while inquiries continue.
Police were alerted at approximately 8:10 in the morning GMT after reports came in regarding several individuals injured by an irritating chemical thought to be an irritant spray.
The assault - which authorities stated was isolated and not being treated as an act of terror - resulted in train delays and the temporary shutdown of the main airport tunnel and the Terminal 3 parking facility briefly.
